Similar to previous projects the scope is to assist with ground water flow data in a Major project development site in Canada. This valuable ground water data forms an integral part of the projects ground water management strategy and dewatering program, as well as potential water treatment and handling for disposal. The NCS Fluid Handling Systems et al designing teams were also on site to access and advise the client and the EPC team on the various dewatering and industrial water treatment options.

NCS team members are experienced in reading geological & interpreting hydrology reports. This provides our clients with a calculated subsurface water management plan. Determining that a combination of eductor deep wells and well-points would serve the project nuances the best. Combination of green sand and carbon beds was determined to meet the discharge criteria for ground constituents for the project.
Total suspended solids (TSS) was determined not to be an issue since NCS would be using their wellpoint dewatering methodology. The NCS designers used the flow data to calculate the various flows to put the dewatering systems in the optimum zone for “area of influence” AKA “Radius of Influence”.
In some areas of this industrial construction site the flow data and depth of excavations determined that well point dewatering may not be optimal. NCS Fluid Systems engineers recommended the use of deep well with eductor systems that are able to dewater at depths deeper than traditional wellpoints. Deep Well Educator Dewatering or submersible pumping are a couple of the options that the NCS Group of companies offer.
In applications where the site has tight construction space limitations or excavations deeper than the effective capability of vacuum type well-points. The NCS dewatering designers still calculate the optimum “area of influence” or “radius of Influence” to recommend the placement of the wells in an effective configuration.
Well-point dewatering, eductors and submersible deep wells enable excavations to be made safer for excavation entry and are effective for applications such as excavations for pipelines, foundations, and bore pits. Well-point dewatering or Deep-well dewatering will assist in stabilizing the slope of an excavation and allow proper compaction of backfill for underground utilities. The most well known type deep well pumping is by electric submersible pumps, which are lowered inside a screen so water can flow unobstructed.
A more effective deep well dewatering systems is the by use of Eductors. Eductors are spaced similar to well-point filters but achieve a more successful deep well dewatering. Large drawdowns can be achieved, depending on the number and depth of the wells drilled and hydrogeological conditions. To create the necessary “cone of depression,” several wells are drilled in accordance with the engineered dewatering plan. In combination these systems work together and create a hydraulic gradient drawing down ground water across all the wells.
